WHAT IS BSPED?
The Berkeley Special Education Parents Network (BSPED) represents families of students in the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) who have special educational needs. BSPED goals are to:
- advocate for disabled students in the district
- share information and resources
- provide support for families of disabled students by helping to ensure that all eligible students receive appropriate services.
UPDATE CURRENT MEMBERSHIP or JOIN BSPED!
- If you are already a member of BSPED and your email address has changed in the past year, PLEASE send us your updated information so that we don't miss you. Several e-tree addresses have bounced back as undeliverable recently.
- If BSPED is new to you, or you know someone who can benefit by knowing us, or our families could benefit by knowing them, please contact us or forward this information to others.
- Membership costs nothing and is open to ALL interested in improving education for students with special educational needs in our community. ( We are parents, grandparents, special & general ed students, siblings, teachers, IA's, administrators, BUSD Board Directors, disability rights advocates...)
BSPED SERVICES:
- BSPED NEWS: e-tree Information/Announcements of interest to families, educators, advocates. If you have an item of interest or concern, request a posting to BSPED News.*
- BSPED FAMILY FORUM: A families-only news list restricted to parents/guardians of students in the BUSD with special educational needs. You must verify that you are a SpEd family member in order to join this list to post-to or receive BSPED Family Forum.*
- BSPED COMMUNITY: BSPED meets 1x/month during the school year every 4th Tuesday at Ala Costa Center, 1300 Rose (@Cedar/Rose Park), Berkeley from 7-9pm. We often sponsor guest speakers; have working sub-groups on hot issues; or simply network with fellow families for support, advice and friendship. Please call or e-mail for more information.
- BSPED NEWS and BSPED Family Forum recipient lists are suppressed to preserve member names and email privacy. However, by default, postings will contain a "submitted by Your Name" credit unless you specifically tell the facilitator to state "Name Withheld" or, on the other hand, specifically provide full contact information so that members may contact you directly. Anonymous postings cannot be accepted. Thank you!
